Happy March, Seafoodies!
The countdown begins! If you’re a college hoops fan, it’s almost time to fill out your b-ball brackets and start cheering your team to victory. In the spirit of this month’s basketball “madness,” we thought it would be fun to stage a friendly competition of our own: We are calling it “March Meal Plan Madness!” Instead of basketball teams, we’ve stacked 16 of our winning recipes from the Dish on Fish E-Cookbook in a bracket–and, of course, seafood always wins! Our contenders are seafood superstars, representing delicious recipes in the Breakfast, Snacks/Apps, Lunch and Dinner divisions. To play along at home, print out our meal bracket, put these recipes to the test and let us know your favorites! You can also follow us on our social channels (@dishonfish) and vote throughout the month.
Whether you are a spectator or a player, seafood and sports are a great combo. Seafood provides the protein we need to power through the game, plus essential nutrients to keep our bodies strong and minds sharp. With so many delectable choices like Smoked Salmon Deviled Eggs, Air Fryer Thai Coconut Shrimp and Baja-Style Fish Tacos, you’ll want to eat your way through the entire meal bracket. We think you’ll agree that’s a pretty fun way to get the recommended two to three servings of seafood a week!
To get started, try some of our recipe matchups, and let us know which ones are a slam-dunk in our comments or by tagging us on our social media channels (@dishonfish). Remember, seafood loves a crowd, so be sure to involve the whole family and get creative with your taste-testing. If you’re hosting a game-night gathering, serve some of these recipes and let your guests vote on which ones should advance to the next round!
Seafoodies, this is one challenge you won’t want to miss! Let the bracketing begin!
Breakfast
Shrimp and Egg Breakfast Burrito vs. Easy Egg and Crab Muffins
Packed with with shellfish, egg and cheese, both contenders offer plenty of incentives to skip the snooze button! But which grab-and-go fave will edge out the competition … the saucy wrap or the mild-mannered muffin?
Avocado-Crab Benny vs. Cast Iron Smoked Salmon Hash
Decisions, decisions: The Hollandaise-topped showstopper is a treat, and the silky salmon hash may be hard to beat!
Snacks/Apps Division
Smoked Salmon Deviled Eggs vs. Baked Spinach and Artichoke Shrimp Dip
The tempting smoked salmon app is well-positioned to make a move, but unstoppable spinach and artichoke shrimp dip is showing no signs of slowing down!
Air Fryer Mac-n-Cheese Tuna Bites vs. Vietnamese Spring Shrimp Rolls
In a clash of the bold and the beautiful, cheesy tuna bites will take on delicate shrimp spring rolls, which were a sleeper hit with our taste-testers.
Lunch Division
Easy Lobster Reuben vs. Grilled Mediterranean Cedar Plank Gyros
It’s the battle of the grilled! Lobster is an incredibly strong player, but the grilled Reuben will get some serious competition from the undefeated planked salmon dish.
Salmon-Stuffed Avocado Boat vs. Air Fryer Thai Coconut Shrimp
The salmon-avo team is usually unstoppable. We can’t wait to see how it plays against the Thai air-fryer stars that are coming off a very sweet-hot (and crispy) season!
Dinner Division
Baja-Style Fish Tacos vs. Gluten-Free Crab Cakes
The Tex-Mex defending champions are quick and really bring on the heat. They go head-to-head with gluten-free, crab-filled phenoms in a contest for healthiest dinner!
Seafood Paella vs. Spicy Sheet Pan Salmon
Our final first-round matchup is a study in contrasts: complex, colorful and chock-full of seafood; or simple, spicy and speedy. Which will win the day?
