Happy End-of-Year, Seafoodies!
As we march toward the end of 2020, there may be a bottle (or two) of bubbly chilling in the fridge ready to pop later this week. At Dish on Fish, we’re looking forward to ushering out 2020 and ringing in 2021 with some delectable small seafood bites that pair beautifully with Champagne and sparkling wine.
Whether you are planning a New Year’s buffet with your bubble or a special, quiet, late-night celebration for two, we’ve got you covered. First, here are a few things to keep in mind when you are picking out the beverage. In general, look for lighter effervescent wines on the drier end of the spectrum. And while white wine always pairs with seafood, a deep red or dry rosé also pairs well with fish and shellfish dishes.
So back to the best seafood bites for your celebration. We love these Butter Garlic Steamed Clams because they are light and flavorful. Next, Crab-stuffed Mushrooms are a classic favorite that can be prepped earlier in the day and then popped into the oven before the clock strikes. And we can’t wait to make these fun Mini Ahi Tuna Bowls—the “bowl” is a wonton wrapper! If you want something a little heartier, try a healthy shrimp pizza. Celebrating with kids? Pair this pizza with a “champagne mocktail” by pouring sparkling water over a tuft of cotton candy!
These small bites are easy to make and will keep you fortified through the evening. We hope you enjoy your New Year’s festivities and look forward to sharing more scrumptious seafood recipes with you in 2021! Cheers!
In a word, yum! These littleneck clams are simmered in a classic wine and garlic broth enriched with cream. Serve them with crusty bread and a glass of brut prosecco or spumante.
Effervescent wine is a fine match for indulgent appetizers such as these creamy, cheesy stuffed mushrooms. Try them with a fruity, floral blanc de blanc Champagne.
Your fellow Seafoodies will go crazy over this gorgeous hors d’oeuvre that tastes as fresh as it looks! The bold flavors of these poke bowls stand up well to bubbly. Try pairing them with a dry or semi-dry champagne, or with a sparkling rosé that has a dry finish.
With simple ingredients like store-bought naan, pesto and delicious shrimp, these small-bite pesto pizzas are fun to make (and eat) together.
