Vitamin D helps boost calcium absorption and bone growth, not to mention reduce the risk of osteoporosis. Our bodies make vitamin D when ultraviolet (UV) rays hit our skin but in the fall, when we find ourselves cozying up indoors, we don’t always get adequate amounts of sunlight. Fatty fish is one of the few foods that naturally contains vitamin D as well as protein, omega-3s and B vitamins. So this fall and winter add some fatty fish—like salmon, tuna or mackerel—to your dishes for a boost of vitamin D.
