Happy Sunday, friends! One of the cooking trends we’ve noticed for 2019 is the ramping up of spices and seasonings in everyday cooking. Seafood is so versatile that it’s the perfect canvas for trying your hand at this fun, new trend.
A great place to start is by infusing different spices and herbs into the seafood in your regular dinner rotation. We all get into the “what’s for dinner” rut. Spicing it up will help you stay on track to include seafood at least two times per week. Suddenly your tried-and-true Monday night salmon becomes an exotic adventure!
We are intrigued by turmeric, a Southeast Asian spice that’s been making its way into the mainstream lately. Not only does it have an amazing flavor, but nutritionists are touting turmeric as being helpful in warding off heart disease, Alzheimer’s disease, and certain types of cancer. It’s a potent anti-inflammatory and antioxidant and may also help ease symptoms of depression and arthritis. Pair turmeric with seafood and you have a superfood meal!
Also, this is a good time to “freshen up” your spice drawer and replace anything that is more than a year old, as the flavor of dried herbs and spices diminishes over time. For a longer lifespan for your spices, we also recommend keeping them out of direct sunlight. So, if you’re ready to spice up that weekly menu of yours with either a dash of this or a sprinkle of that, then we’ve got you covered. Let’s start turning it up!
