Happy July, Seafoodies!
Time to break out your picnic baskets—it’s National Picnic Month! We love any holiday that encourages us to eat al fresco! Seafood is a fun and healthy option for an outdoor menu, and our July Meal Plan will inspire you to get out and picnic—whether you are bringing a picnic for July 4 fireworks, packing snacks for an outdoor concert or heading to a park for a romantic dinner under the stars!
Picnics are all about taking it easy, so the last thing you want is fussy food. Seafood is perfect for a picnic because it’s such a snap to cook. Whip up some smoky trout dip and toss with a baguette in your bag. Roll up some tasty tuna or salmon wraps for a light and satisfying bite. Stir some tuna into macaroni to make a cool and flavorful pasta salad. And colorful, crunchy shrimp spring rolls are a refreshing addition to any picnic, particularly when served with a tangy peanut sauce! The recipes in our July Meal Plan all come together quickly—some in only 5 minutes—so they can join you for any spontaneous outdoor-eating event. If you’re more of a planner, they also can be prepped the night before, so the next day you can just grab and go!
While savoring the sun and summer breeze, you’ll be enjoying some quality eats that are a nutritional cut above the standard picnic fare with our meal plan! Seafood is a rich source of protein, heart-healthy omega-3s and other essential nutrients, so it’s a smart choice to balance any chocolate-chip cookies that might be lurking in your picnic basket.
Don’t forget that prepared seafood is perishable and should be kept in a cooler at 40 °F or below until serving time. We recommend using a separate cooler for beverages at your outdoor events because that cooler will be opened often. After eating, pack up the leftovers and promptly return to the food cooler (for tomorrow’s lunch!).
The portability of these dishes makes them great for summer BBQs and potlucks, too! Enjoy!
