Happy #SeafoodSunday, Seafoodies!
August may lack a national holiday, but it’s got something pretty special—a full 31 days of National Sandwich Month! We’re partial to seafood sandwiches, of course, so this month we’ll be celebrating our love for terrific tuna burgers, sensational salmon sliders and all the other wonderful seafood-bread pairings that make a Seafoodie’s world go ‘round!
We especially love seafood sammies in the summer (try saying that fast three times!) because they’re tailor-made for casual backyard gatherings—and a satisfying option when you don’t feel like a more formal meal. Swapping in seafood for traditional sandwich fixings gives you just as much protein, with much less fat and sodium, and is an easy way to work toward the recommended 2 to 3 servings of seafood per week. Plus, seafood is one of the best sources of important nutrients many of us tend to get too little of, such as omega-3 fatty acids, vitamin D and vitamin B-12. Whether you’re trying to eat less meat, giving the pescatarian diet a go or just wanting to serve something a little different, seafood sandwiches are the way to go!
To get you started, we’ve rounded up some of the best seafood sandwich recipes we could find. We’re talking pan-seared sesame tuna burgers topped with avocado slices and a tangy ancho chili sauce. Reuben sandwiches with lobster, Swiss cheese and chewy sauerkraut on rye bread. Salmon grilled on a cedar plank and served in pitas with veggies and tzatziki. And, the list goes on. With so many tempting burgers, sliders and other sandwiches, you’ll have plenty of options to celebrate National Sandwich Month Seafoodie-style!
Pimento cheese makes this tuna melt extra-special! Bonus: it’s so simple, your older kids can make it on their own.
